The day I’ve been waiting for so long has come: a real wedding in Matera.
And not just anyone: Raffaella and Ivan.
Raffaella was a student in one of my photography courses at Officine Fotografiche, some years ago.
When she asked me to tell their fairy tale in Matera as a storyteller I was really excited: Matera, the capital of culture 2019, the city of the world famous “Sassi”. Wow, so exciting!
It is one of the oldest cities in the world whose territory holds evidence of human settlements starting from the Paleolithic and without interruption until today. It represents an extraordinary page written by man through the millennia of this long history.
Matera is the city of the Sassi, the original urban nucleus, developed from the natural caves carved into the rock and subsequently modeled in increasingly complex structures within two large natural amphitheatres that are the Sasso Caveoso and the Sasso Barisano. An incredible and mysterious place.
A few weeks before their wedding in Matera, I proposed them to have also an engagement session, to get to know better the area, and certainly to have more time to create particular portraits. This is the main rule for a wedding photographer to get the best results.

A Pure show, even if in July, at noon, the temperature is a little high …
But a wedding photographer in the top season is well prepared to fight against any weather condition!
But with them it was amazing. Families from the South, a typical marriage in Italy, warm and welcoming, a wedding dress made by the mother-in-law with a lot of artistic work, as well as all the other things that made up their marriage, from the wedding cards to the tableau de marriage, all self made, done in a choral way, together with the dearest friends. I am the witness of all this stuff.
Everything with the presence of their two beautiful cats, real protagonist of the day and of course, of their lives.
The ceremony was so beautiful, at the church of San Giovanni Battista in the center of Matera. A church with a medieval style, but very elegant. And then the wedding party at the Masseria Torre Spagnola, a charming location near the city.
Caliente atmosphere, like the day, until late evening. And it could not be otherwise …The photos speak clearly, I think …
My experience as a wedding photographer Matera was one of the best I ever had.
